June is the month of celebrations and festivities for the Popular Saints throughout the country on the nights of St. Anthony, St. John and St. Peter. St. John is celebrated on the nights of 23/24 June. These are vivid celebrations, during which people go out to the streets for eating, usually the popular grilled sardines, drinking and having fun in the old neighbourhoods that are decorated with arches, colourful balloons and the aroma of sweet basil. In Faro, St. John’s festival (Arraial de S. João) has a privileged place in the old town with parades in the square Largo Afonso III, close to the Municipal Museum. In some of the stands the participants of ICTMT 12 will get a complimentary discount; please use your ICTMT 12 badge.
